The MUSIC program is funded by the Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Council of Canada’s (NSERC) CREATE program. Building on the established Biomedical Imaging and Artificial Intelligence (BMIAI) research cluster at UBC (https://bmiai.ubc.ca/) and its extensive connections with Canada’s burgeoning biotech industry, MUSIC responds to an acute need for a multi-faceted, data-driven approach to understanding the biological processes that lead to disease. With MUSIC training, over 100 highly qualified personnel (HQP) will be able to measure, manipulate, and analyze biomedical data at a wide range of physical scales, using advanced signal processing and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. Through this program, we intend to create two graduate-level courses as follows, the development of which would be led by the Lecturer.

The Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research, in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of tissue and disease biology. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor, with an expected start date of October 1, 2024, or shortly thereafter.

Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Digital Health

Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) or Associate Professor (Tenure)| Department of Pediatrics, and Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics; Faculty of Medicine

The Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics in the Faculty of Medicine, at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invite applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Digital Health.

Tier 2 Chairs are five-year positions, renewable once, intended for exceptional emerging scholars who have the potential to lead in their fields. Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a full-time, tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at UBC. Normally, applicants for Tier 2 Chairs should be no more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree at the time of Chair nomination. Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process.

Department members include full-time, part-time and community-based pediatricians throughout the province. The Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics (APT) consists of more than 500 physicians, scientists and teaching faculty who provide undergraduate and graduate programs in pharmacology and therapeutics, postgraduate residency programs and fellowships in anesthesiology. The Department hosts 3 residency programs in anesthesiology and pain medicine and provides provincially-distributed training.

The BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute, located at BC Children’s Hospital, is the largest research institute of its kind in Western Canada, where more than 300 Investigators form a dynamic and highly collaborative research community that aims to improve the health of children and their families. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with a large and diverse community of basic scientists and clinicians.

The Department of Pathobiology at the University of Guelph invites applications and nominations for a Canada Research Chair Tier II (NSERC) in Systems Approaches to Disease. The appointment will be tenure-track at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Tier 2 Chairs are awarded for a five-year term and can be renewed once. Tier 2 CRCs are for emerging researchers acknowledged by their peers as world-class. A CRC Tier II Chair attracts funding of $600,000 over five years, with most of this funding allocated to support the Chair and the Chair’s program of research. This position will form part of a One Health cluster of researchers at the University of Guelph) working in an interdisciplinary manner at the interface of animal, human, and environmental health.

Exceptional emerging scholars, with the potential to become world leaders in a field related to Systems Approaches to Disease, are invited to apply. The successful candidate will have a PhD and post-doctoral training in a discipline related to animal health and disease research. Their work may involve any discipline related to Pathobiology, including mammalian pathology, comparative pathology, veterinary infectious diseases, microbiology, or immunology. Expertise and experience in applications of big data (including but not limited to transcriptomics, genomics, proteomics, epigenomics and metabolomics) to delineate disease processes in animals is expected. Holding a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or another health professional degree will be an asset.

NSERC Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Plant Synthetic Biology

About the Position

The Department of Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science seeks applications from outstanding scientists for an NSERC Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Plant Synthetic Biology.

Consistent with the gender equity goals of the Canada Research Chairs Program and the Department of Biological Sciences, this position is targeted to individuals who self-identify as women. The successful candidate will apply molecular and/or genetic engineering approaches to enhance crop value, select or develop new strains/products, and/or address environmental concerns. The ideal candidate will be interested in developing collaborations with local Niagara agricultural industries and taking advantage of existing research and development support through Brock’s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI) and the Brock–Niagara Validation, Prototyping, and Manufacturing Institute (VPMI). There will be opportunities to collaborate with plant biologists in Biological Sciences as well as colleagues in the departments of Chemistry, Engineering, Computer Science, and elsewhere. Brock University is located a short drive from a cluster of research universities in southern Ontario.

The home department of Biological Sciences is a dynamic department within the Faculty of Mathematics and Science (see brocku.ca/mathematics- science/biology/). The department enjoys large and growing undergraduate and graduate student populations as well as active, diverse, and collaborative research faculty. Biological Sciences offers BSc, MSc, and PhD programs in Biological Sciences and in Biotechnology. The candidate’s laboratories are expected to be in the Cairns’ Family Health and Bioscience Research Complex, which includes a 2,500 square foot shared main wet lab with 600 square feet of shared HQP office space. There is an adjacent 2,000 square foot phytotron and an additional 1,000 square feet of ancillary research space that houses plant tissue culture facilities. Additional laboratory space may also be available as needed. Mass spectrometry and next-generation sequencing capabilities are available on campus.
