Description:

BRAIN CODE, the bioinformatics team at Dr. Kevin Petrecca’s Lab, the Neuro – McGill University, is recruiting Bioinformatics Research Assistant, Associate and Analysts. We are applying state-of-the-art technologies, including our single cell spatial transcriptomics platform, to our highly valuable and unique human brain datasets, to uncover fundamental biological mechanisms that govern brain cancer initiation, development and evolution, as well as the biology of human brain. Responsibilities:

Under the direction and supervision of BRAIN CODE lead (Javad Nadaf, PhD), and based on your skills and interests, you will perform advanced bioinformatics analyses to interpret biological Omics data such as variant calling, annotations, single-nucleus ATAC-seq, single cell transcriptomic, spatial transcriptomics, and other Omics data on brain datasets, as well as managing datasets and benchmarking new Omics and bioinformatics tools. Your responsibilities will be from the list below and based on your skills and interest:

  • Streamline and maintain NGS data analysis pipelines, and manage storage of the datasets and results.
  • Apply bioinformatics approaches for the analysis of omics datasets.
  • benchmarking new bioinformatics programs.
  • Stay informed of the best bioinformatics practices relevant to the biological problems, contribute to problem-solving discussions in bioinformatics, developing tools, and writing scientific manuscripts.
Qualifications:
  • At a minimum, undergraduate or graduate degree in a quantitative science, with at least 2 years of experience in analysis of omics data, or undergraduate or graduate degree in biology with at least 3 years of experience in programming and data analysis.
  • Strong programming skills using multiple languages, including Python, bash, and R.
  • Proficient in utilizing and programming within a High-Performance Computing (HPC) environment.
  • Great at teamwork.
  • Communication skills in English or French, spoken and written.
