Description:

An exciting postdoctoral research opportunity is currently available in our dynamic research group at the intersection of single-cell genomics and machine learning. The Mer lab (https://merlab.github.io/) at the University of Ottawa, Canada in collaboration with Megha Chandrashekhar (Canadian Nuclear Laboratories) are seeking to recruit a postdoctoral fellow. You will lead a groundbreaking project to explore the effect of radiation on primary and hematopoietic stem cells. The selected candidate will become an integral part of our interdisciplinary team, specializing in conducting comparative analyses and implementing cutting-edge computational algorithms for the analysis of multi-omics single-cell sequencing datasets (including scRNA-seq, scAb-seq, and scATAC-seq).

Why Join Us:

  • Opportunity to take lead and work on groundbreaking projects at the forefront of single-cell genomics and radiation biology.
  • Collaboration with esteemed university centers such as the Ottawa Institute of Systems Biology (OISB), the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories
  • Strong support for independent research directions and career development plans.
  • Mentorship opportunities and collaboration with graduate students and research assistants.
Responsibilities:
  • Spearhead projects centered on single-cell multi-omics data (scRNA-seq, scAb-seq, and scATAC-seq) to advance our understanding of the impact of radiation on biological systems.
  • Innovate and apply state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools and techniques to unravel intricate patterns within single-cell omics data.
  • Engage in collaboration with project partners and members of the team.
  • Publish research findings in high-impact scientific journals.
  • Mentor and collaborate with graduate students and research assistants, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented research environment.
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in the field of computational biology, bioinformatics, machine learning or a quantitative field.
  • Published/submitted papers in the field of genomics data analysis and/or machine learning research.
  • Strong expertise in programming (preferably R, Python, C/C++) and machine learning
  • Good communication and writing skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with analysis of high-throughput omics data, such as next-generation sequencing and gene expression data.
  • Hands-on experience in high performance computing, especially for parallelizing code in R and Python in a cluster or cloud environment.
