We’re turning 25!
2024 marks the 25th anniversary of Bioinformatics.ca and the Canadian Bioinformatics Workshops, and we want you to help us celebrate! We’re collecting photos, videos, and stories of the last 25 years of CBW, and we’re even throwing a party at ISMB 2024.
Do you have any great photos from one of our workshops? Did you meet anyone special? We’d love any photos, videos, or memories you’d like to share, and with your permission we may even feature them on our social media and website! You can send us your memories by emailing support@bioinformatics.ca or by uploading them to this Dropbox link.
Birthday Party at ISMB 2024
To celebrate our birthday, we’ll be throwing a party at ISMB 2024 in Montréal, Québec! Saturday, July 13th at 6pm we will be bringing together alumni, faculty, and the bioinformatics community as a whole to reminisce about the last 25 years and look toward the future. Attendance is open to all, regardless of whether you have previously attended a Canadian Bioinformatics Workshop.
Space is limited and attendees must register in advance. You can reserve your spot as part of your ISMB 2024 registration for $20 – register before March 30 using code EARLY10 to receive 10% off and free cancellation. If you want to register for the party but not the conference, you can do so here for $50.

It's Throwback Thursday – check out the flyer for the 2000 Canadian #Bioinformatics Workshops! We only offered four workshops, but they ranged from six to twelve (!) days long. #25YearsOfCBW pic.twitter.com/c0gLHEQIMZ

Seeing our #OpenAccess material live on beyond workshops has been one of the best parts of the first #25YearsOfCBW. This year, @UMontreal's Veterinary Medicine Research Week ran a seminar based on our Intro to R workshop, with TAs teaching in French, English, and Spanish! pic.twitter.com/PIjtYD4n0T

As CBW has grown, we’ve evolved with the times. We now offer virtual workshops, but that doesn’t mean that participants don’t get to know each other! Epigenomics Analysis 2023’s virtual networking social ended with a nail-biting go-kart race. #25YearsOfCBW pic.twitter.com/RuCJvbENzB

The Canadian Bioinformatics Workshops are an incredible opportunity to connect with other bioinformatics practitioners. Participants come away with a new network of colleagues on top of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience #25YearsOfCBW pic.twitter.com/o8rJ8oRwJI

Ah, yes, and I remember being on the phone Sunday night with a rep from Sun Microsystems (one of the first https://t.co/hDWinp9mb3 sponsors) trying to get their loaner E450 to work. We had less than 12 hrs to get it going, and thankfully, we did! #25YearsOfCBW https://t.co/vHOAY9gJmy pic.twitter.com/6MmrYUHG9B

25 years ago in Calgary, a group of instructors and TAs prepared for the first-ever Canadian Bioinformatics Workshop. Much has changed since then, but the CBW banner at the front of the classroom still travels to every workshop! #25YearsOfCBW pic.twitter.com/xbe1cWlxQu

#25YearsOfCBW – I remember being a student in 2000 & then taking over as CBW Program Manager in 2007! Here we are planning CBW's transition to 2-day and 3-day data intensive workshops. @bffo @garybader1 @SohrabShah @joannealisonfox @StefanieButland @wishartlab pic.twitter.com/WhV5uRI8K3
