In support of the Prairie Cancer Research Consortium’s sequencing efforts, we’re looking for a full stack developer to collaborate with other Terry Fox Research Institute grantees to deploy, maintain and improve analysis+reporting systems for cancer cases being sequenced at the U of C’s CSM Centre for Health Genomics and Informatics. This is a two year on-site position with an AUPE TEC II designation at $80K/annum plus comprehensive benefits.

The Michael Smith Laboratories at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, invites applications for a Research Associate position in Next-Generation RNA Therapeutics to join a dynamic and multidisciplinary team under the co-supervision of Dr. Anna Blakney and Dr. Jay Kizhakkedathu. The successful candidate will work on a project to develop new polymeric strategies for delivery of RNA. The Blakney Lab at UBC (blakneylab.msl.ubc.ca) develops next-generation RNA vaccines and therapies based on self-amplifying RNA and using interdisciplinary approaches including bioengineering, immunology, molecular biology and bioinformatics. The Kizhakkedathu lab (https://cbr.ubc.ca/our-people/investigators/jayachandran-kizhakkedathu/) develops novel polymers and biomaterials as therapeutics and devices. Project: RNA medicines have gained considerable momentum in the past few years with the approval of Onpattro and the COVID-19 messenger RNA vaccines. While lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) are the state-of-the-art delivery system for RNA, we recently discovered that polymeric nanoparticles are less inflammatory and induce higher protein expression than LNPs. For this project, we are keen to explore the polymer design space for RNA delivery for a variety of applications. The PDF will work with the Blakney and Kizhakkedathu labs to design and synthesize novel polymers, and test them for RNA delivery and immunogenicity in vivo in preclinical models. We anticipate that polymers are a clinically translatable delivery system for RNA therapeutics.

Position: Bioinformatician II Location: MaRS Centre, Toronto Department: Genome Sequence Informatics Reports To: Manager, Genome Interpretation Salary: Commensurate with level of experience Hours: 35 hours/week Job Type: Hybrid Status: Full-Time, Permanent The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) Genomics Program is seeking a Bioinformatician for the Cancer Genome Interpretation group, part of Genome Sequence Informatics (GSI) and OICR-PM Joint Genomics Program (https://genomics.oicr.on.ca/). The Cancer Genome Interpretation (CGI) group is a team of bioinformaticians developing analytic approaches for reporting clinical genomic data. The ideal candidate will have proven skills in both genome biology and bioinformatic analysis. The Bioinformatician will collate sequencing results from clinical cases, identify and provide details on clinically actionable variation, and draft clinical reports for review by a board-certified Geneticist. In addition, the Bioinformatician will develop and validate new cancer genome analysis approaches to incorporate into our suite of CAP- and IQMH- clinically accredited assays. Position: Bioinformatician I Location: MaRS Centre, Toronto Department: Drug Discovery Program Reports To: Scientific Advisor Salary: Commensurate with level of experience Hours: 35 hours/week Job Type: Hybrid Status: Full-Time, Temporary (1-year contract with possible conversion to permanent position)   The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking a bioinformatician who possesses the relevant training to join the Drug Discovery (DD) Program. The program aims to help efficiently translate discoveries made in Ontario’s labs into novel oncology therapies, spanning the entire drug discovery process from target identification and validation to clinical candidate selection. The DD Program is collaborating with OICR’s Adaptive Oncology (AO) to develop computational tools to identify and prioritize biological targets and biomarkers. The AO Program seeks to develop knowledge and approaches to monitor cancer over time and in response to treatment, to enable precise and proactive clinical management. This position is temporary, full-time for one-year, with the possibility of conversion to a permanent position. The successful candidate will work closely with data scientists and biologists from OICR’s Adaptive Oncology and Drug Discovery programs to co-develop novel algorithms/methods and pipelines for target/biomarker discovery. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about the latest developments in drug discovery and the use of various bioinformatic and machine learning approaches in computational biology, while contributing to the development of new treatments for cancer. A fully funded PhD position is available at United Arab Emirates University. The project involves integrating mathematical models of the date palm tree with Omics data to explore the impact of both biotic and abiotic stresses. The bioinformatics postdoc will be part of an interdisciplinary research team that is using wastewater to track the dynamics of infectious agents. We have developed an integrated surveillance network monitoring 43 municipalities, as well as several sentinel surveillance hubs including a large number of tertiary care hospitals and populations of special interest from which we collect samples 1-3x per week. The successful applicant will join a productive transdisciplinary team with supporting research funding from CIHR, Genome Canada, and Alberta Health. The postdoc will work as part of a large team that includes several staff with PhDs, graduate students, and undergraduates. They will report to Michael Parkins (Section Chief of Infectious Diseases, Cumming School of Medicine) and Srijak Bhatnagar, Bioinformatics lead, Faculty of Science and Technology). The position is based at the University of Calgary.
