Liquid biopsies are ushering in a new era in cancer diagnostics, making it possible to detect tumors from a simple blood draw.
In this context, our laboratory is developing a next-generation molecular technology to improve the sensitivity and specificity of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) detection.
This project offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a tangible biomedical advance at the intersection of technological innovation and precision medicine. This research program is fully funded and aims to change clinical practice in oncology.
The postdoctoral fellow will lead the development and validation of a novel experimental method with high clinical potential for liquid biopsies. The research program is fully funded and targets direct clinical impact.
The goal is to create a robust, reproducible, and sensitive technology capable of identifying cancer-associated genetic alterations — with the ambition of transforming patient care.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking an outstanding postdoctoral researcher driven by the ambition to transform clinical practice in oncology. Ideal profile:
- PhD. in molecular biology, genomics, biomedical engineering, or a related field;
- Strong publication record demonstrating the ability to lead high-caliber research projects;
- Experience in bioinformatics and sequencing data analysis (a major asset);
- Autonomy, experimental rigor, critical thinking, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
About the Laboratory
Professor Alexandre Pellan Cheng is an Associate Professor at ÉTS, a researcher at the CHUM Research Centre, and a member of the Open Innovation Laboratory (LIO). He obtained his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Cornell University and completed his postdoctoral training at the New York Genome Center.
The laboratory works in close collaboration with Dr. Antoine Desilets, a clinician-scientist at the CRCHUM with expertise in molecular oncology. A former Fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), Dr. Desilets leads a program of investigator-initiated trials (IITs), providing a true bench-to-bedside pathway for all projects in the group.

Les biopsies liquides ouvrent une nouvelle ère dans le diagnostic du cancer, en rendant possible la détection de tumeurs à partir d’un simple prélèvement sanguin. Dans ce contexte, notre laboratoire développe une technologie moléculaire de nouvelle génération pour améliorer la sensibilité et la spécificité de la détection de l’ADN tumoral circulant (ctDNA). Ce projet offre l’opportunité unique de contribuer à une avancée biomédicale concrète, au croisement de l’innovation technologique et de la médecine de précision. Ce programme de recherche est entièrement financé et s’inscrit dans une démarche visant à changer la pratique clinique en oncologie.
Le/la stagiaire postdoctoral.e dirigera le développement et la validation d’une nouvelle méthode expérimentale à fort potentiel clinique pour les biopsies liquides. Le programme de recherche est entièrement financé et vise un impact clinique direct.
L’objectif est de créer une technologie robuste, reproductible et sensible, capable d’identifier des altérations génétiques associées au cancer — avec l’ambition de transformer la prise en charge clinique des patients.
Profil recherché
Nous recherchons un.e chercheur.e postdoctoral.e d’excellence, animé.e par l’ambition de transformer la pratique clinique en oncologie. Profil recherché :
- Doctorat (Ph.D.) en biologie moléculaire, génomique, génie biomédical ou domaine connexe ;
- Dossier de publications solide démontrant une capacité à mener des projets de recherche de haut calibre ;
- Expérience en bioinformatique et analyse de données de séquençage (un atout majeur) ;
- Autonomie, rigueur expérimentale, esprit critique et capacité à travailler en équipe multidisciplinaire.
À propos du laboratoire
Le professeur Alexandre Pellan Cheng est professeur agrégé à l’ÉTS, chercheur au Centre de recherche du CHUM, et membre du Laboratoire d’innovation ouverte (le LIO). Il a obtenu son doctorat en génie biomédical de Cornell University et a effectué ses recherches postdoctorales au New York Genome Center. Le laboratoire travaille en étroite collaboration avec le Dr Antoine Desilets, clinicien-chercheur au CRCHUM spécialisé en oncologie moléculaire. Ancien Fellow au Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), le Dr Desilets dirige un programme d’essais cliniques initiés par l’investigateur (IITs), offrant ainsi un véritable continuum du laboratoire au chevet du patient pour l’ensemble des projets du groupe.
