Reporting to the Research Officer, the Trainer will oversee the design, promotion and delivery of bioinformatics training events and documentation to academic and private sector users of the C3G core facility. This role will be instrumental in meeting the demand for training resulting from our business development efforts (open access) and specific projects with academic and industry partners. This role involves close collaboration with core facility users, the business developer and bioinformatics specialists. The Trainer will be exposed to a diverse range of cutting-edge molecular assays, innovative bioinformatics methods, and high-performance computing resources within a facility dedicated to high-throughput sequencing and large-scale genomic research.
- Identify and prioritize user training needs of core facility users by conducting needs assessments to understand the specific training requirements of different user groups.
- Leveraging existing expertise, oversee the development and delivery of training material and events on bioinformatics analysis techniques, data management, and the use of computational infrastructure.
- Structure, review, and edit educational material to ensure clarity and effectiveness.
- Research and recommend various instruction delivery tools and resources relevant to bioinformatics training.
- Work with the Director of Business Development to identify training opportunities and tailor workshops to the needs of different actors, including the private sector.
- Oversee the promotion of the core facility’s training offer.
- Collect feedback regarding user satisfaction.
- Track key performance indicators related to the success of the facility’s efforts.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in both French and English, with the ability to explain complex bioinformatics concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
- Experience with research in academia or industry is required.
- Strong understanding of bioinformatics concepts and techniques relevant to the services offered by the facility.
- Must be results-driven, a self-starter, and highly motivated.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively; takes initiative.
- Experience in conducting presentations to an audience of scientists and technical personnel.
- Strong analytical skills, agile and adaptable, responsive to changes and feedback from the team and users.
- Familiarity with common educational software applications and web-conferencing tools.
- Must be able to travel within the province occasionally.
- Occasional overtime is required, as well as work evenings for events.
