Description:

We’re looking for a contract Bioinformatics Scientist to support cutting-edge computational work at the intersection of CRISPR gene editing and genomic safety assessment. You’ll be embedded with an R&D team building and maintaining the analytical infrastructure that powers off-target profiling assays — work that directly shapes how gene editing therapies are evaluated for safety.

This is a hands-on pipeline engineering role. You’ll spend most of your time designing, building, and validating NGS analysis workflows, collaborating across science and engineering teams, and turning complex genomic outputs into interpretable insights.

Responsibilities:
  • Architect and deploy scalable NGS analysis pipelines (alignment, variant calling, QC, annotation) with reproducibility and GLP compliance in mind
  • Optimize and extend existing workflows using Nextflow Tower and cloud-native infrastructure (AWS Batch, ECR, Docker)
  • Work closely with wet lab scientists, data scientists, and product teams to integrate multi-source genomic data for off-target safety evaluation
  • Build clear, publication-quality visualizations and summary outputs that drive experimental and product decisions
  • Maintain rigorous documentation of code, analyses, and validation steps to support regulatory review
  • Track and evaluate emerging tools in the NGS, genome editing, and bioinformatics space
Qualifications:

Required:

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or equivalent (MS/BS with substantial industry experience considered)
  • Strong command of NGS analysis fundamentals — alignment (BWA), variant calling (GATK), and tools like Samtools, Picard, and BEDTools
  • Fluency in Python and R for pipeline development and data analysis
  • Production experience with Nextflow (Tower familiarity a strong plus) and workflow automation in Linux/HPC or cloud environments
  • Direct experience building Docker containers and running batch workloads on AWS (Batch + ECR or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with CRISPR systems and off-target detection methodologies
  • GitHub-based version control and collaborative development practices

Preferred:

  • Prior industry experience in biotech, pharma, or diagnostics
  • Exposure to GLP/GxP data management standards
  • Infrastructure-as-code background (AWS CDK, Terraform)
  • Strong statistical reasoning and reproducible research practices

This is a consulting role and hours are flexible and variable. We are looking for a candidate who has up to 40 hours/week
