Description:

Transcriptome Sciences Inc. is seeking an individual for the position of Data Scientist. The candidate will have very strong R programming skills and experience using and developing genomics analysis pipelines, with a publication record demonstrating these skills. Experience with experimental design in genomics and working in a laboratory setting is a requirement. The ability to describe and document complex ideas to technical and non-technical personnel is essential. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a world-class research team dedicated to improving patient outcomes through molecular analysis.

Responsibilities:

Programming, data/statistical analysis, machine learning
Preparing high quality graphics
Manuscript preparation
Travelling internationally to present work at conferences
Maintaining and debugging version-controlled software
Interpreting MMDx reports
Provide support for grant applications and clinical trial development

Qualifications:

MSc or PhD specializing in genomics, biostatistics, or a related field
Mastery of functional programming in R (this will be tested prior to interviewing)
Must be eligible to travel to the US and Europe multiple times per year

Transcriptome Sciences Inc. (TSI) is the commercial spin-off from the Alberta Transplant Applied Genomics Centre (ATAGC) at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. Together TSI and ATAGC, led by Dr. Philip Halloran, a clinician scientist, are dedicated to developing a new understanding of disease mechanisms through the molecular analysis of organ biopsies. The result is an extensive and growing database consisting of clinical, pathology, and gene expression findings from healthy and diseased organ biopsies supplemented with patient outcomes. The commercial application of this work is the Molecular Microscope™ Diagnostic System (MMDx™) now being offered for kidney and heart transplant recipients in North America and Europe (MMDx for lung and liver recipients are currently being evaluated in transplant centers across the globe).
