About Us
Welcome to the Ontario Node of the Canadian Bioinformatics Hub–Canada’s platform for Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, and Data Science skills and community development. The national CBH network consists of six Regional Nodes hosted by partner institutions in strategic regions: Atlantic, Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, the Prairies, and British Columbia. Each node plays a crucial role in CBH’s mission by offering localized training programs, building partnerships with regional stakeholders, and providing opportunities for active involvement of community members in their initiatives.
CBH Ontario is based at University Health Network, with Karen Cranston as Director. This regional team is responsible for representing your bioinformatics and computational biology interests at the national level.
Our resources are structured around the platform’s two main pillars: training and community. The Training Portal will serve as a central hub for all partner-led bioinformatics and professional development training programs aligned with competency-based learning paths. It will also host our training awards program. The Community portal will extend the trainee experience with valuable resources and activities, including career recognition awards, mentorship opportunities, networking events, a national conference, and regional bioinformatics user groups.
CBH Québec Team

Julie Hussin, PhD
Director, CBH Québec
IVADO Associate Professor, Université de Montréal
Dr. Julie Hussin has been an IVADO Professor at the University of Montreal since 2017 and a Senior Investigator at the Montreal Heart Institute since 2016. Prior to that, she was a research fellow and post-doctoral fellow at Oxford in the United Kingdom and she also completed a PhD at the University of Montreal while being heavily involved in the student association. Her research spans the fields of evolutionary biology, medical genomics, and artificial intelligence. Her main interest is in the study of populations and diseases using computational approaches, in order to use omics as a powerful tool to improve precision medicine. Since the beginning of her studies, she has always been very involved in the bioinformatics community in order to promote this emerging field of research. We are happy to have her part of our regional team!

Canelle Schuhler-Husson
Regional Coordinator, CBH Québec
Canelle joined the Canadian Bioinformatics Hub team in 2025 as the Regional Coordinator for the province of Quebec. An engineer by training, she graduated in 2024 with a dual degree: a general engineering diploma from ECAM LaSalle in Lyon, France, and a master’s degree in Health Technology Engineering from the École de Technologie Supérieure (ÉTS) in Montreal. This multidisciplinary background has enabled her to develop expertise in health technologies, project management, and digital innovation applied to biomedical sciences.
Passionate about collaborative environments and committed to advancing life sciences and digital technologies, she now applies her skills in project management, communication, and logistics to the Canadian Bioinformatics Hub, with the goal of actively contributing to its regional and national reach.
