Dear CBW Community,

We are writing to inform you of important updates regarding the structure of our workshops and registration fees, all of which will take effect on July 1, 2026. These changes are designed to ensure the continued growth, accessibility, and sustainability of the Canadian Bioinformatics Workshops (CBW) program as we expand nationally.

Our core commitment in making these format and fee changes remains that our workshops aim to break even. This ensures we can maintain the excellence and accessibility of the program, including faculty and TA compensation, without raising fees to unaffordable levels.

New Workshop Formats

We are excited to introduce new, shorter workshop formats: 4-hour and 8-hour sessions. We are planning an initial call for new content in areas like machine learning and single-cell analysis for these new formats.

Shorter, more focused sessions will make it easier for a wider audience to engage with and benefit from our specialized content.  These formats will additionally help us manage resources effectively and continue offering a robust program of high-quality workshops as we scale.

Registration Fee Update

We aim to keep our registration fees as affordable as possible, and we have resisted increasing our prices whenever possible. However, to maintain the sustainability of our workshops, we are implementing a modest increase in fees. The new pricing structure is detailed in the table below.

# daysFEES
EarlyLate
0.5$144.00$194.00
1$288.00$388.00
2$576.00$776.00
3$864.00$1,064.00
4$1,152.00$1,352.00
5$1,440.00$1,640.00

Why does CBW have late fees?

We have separate early registration and late registration fees to encourage early registration: we make decisions on whether to run a workshop based on the number of applicants at the early bird deadline.

We believe these strategic changes will strengthen the CBW program, foster innovation in our content, and provide a more sustainable framework for our faculty.

We thank you for your commitment to the CBW and look forward to your continued participation and support.

Sincerely,

The Canadian Bioinformatics Workshops Team
