CBH Event Sponsorship Program

The CBH event sponsorship program provides funding to CBH Community Chapters and CBH Community Partners to support bioinformatics, computational biology, and data science (BCBDS) community-building events across Canada, with a particular emphasis on supporting events that centre IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility) and/or Indigenous priorities. This initiative aims to foster the growth of collaborative environments which encourage engagement and knowledge sharing within the Canadian BCBDS community.

To apply for CBH event sponsorship, download the CBH Event Sponsorship Application Form using the button below. Fill the form, save as a PDF, and submit by emailing it to community@bioinformatics.ca.

What types of events qualify for CBH event sponsorship?

The CBH event sponsorship program supports a range of events, including but not limited to:

  • Career days
  • Conference sessions
  • Hackathons
  • Fireside chats
  • Networking events
  • Panel discussions
  • Seminars
  • Symposiums

Event formats may vary, provided they are pertinent to the fields of BCBDS. Funds can be used to cover event expenses, including venue rental, catering, speaker travel, audiovisual needs, and any necessary materials or supplies. Training events such as workshops are not eligible for event sponsorship through CBH.

The funding available for CBH-sponsored events depends on the type of event being organized. For successful applications, the final awarded amount will vary based on the size and impact of the event, the demonstrated financial requirements for hosting the event, and the funds available at CBH.
Each CBH Community Partner may submit up to three applications per fiscal year (Apr 1 – Mar 31).

  • Available sponsorship funds for general BCBDS events: Up to $500 per event.
  • Available sponsorship funds for Indigenous- and/or IDEA-centred events: Up to $1,000 or more per event.

To apply for CBH event sponsorship, download the CBH Event Sponsorship Application Form. Fill the form, save as a PDF, and submit by emailing it to community@bioinformatics.ca.

No, events are not guaranteed to receive funding through CBH. Event sponsorship applications must meet additional criteria laid out in our application form. Not all partners or events will be eligible for event sponsorship funding, and funding is limited per year and per region.

If your event sponsorship application is rejected, we will provide feedback that will help you for your next application.

If your event sponsorship application is approved, we will send you an email with further instructions on how to acknowledge CBH at your event, as well as how to receive your sponsorship funds.

CBH event sponsorship is completed via reimbursement, meaning you will receive your funding after the event is complete.

After your event is complete, you will have 30 days to submit a Post-Event Report form. This form includes event information, budget and reimbursement details, an event report, and speaker/registrant data. Note that we cannot send your reimbursement funding if we have not received a completed post-event report. Download the post-event report form using the button below.
