Work Location: Room 503, 3649 promenade Sir-William-Osler,
Hours/Week/Schedule: 33.75 hours/week; Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
Hourly Wage: $27.32
Planned Start Date & End Date: ASAP for six (6) months, possibility of renewal for an additional six (6) months

The Research Assistant will analyze next generation sequencing data to address complex biological problems in cancer biology. The Research Assistant is expected to perform the following duties:

• integrative analysis from multi-data types generated internally as well as use of publicly available datasets;
• systematically explore and mine multidimensional data to validate experimental findings or formulate hypotheses to provide directions for further studies;
• evaluate existing algorithms to analyze genomic data; work closely with biologists and clinicians and to provide customized bioinformatics/computational support throughout their studies;
• work with bioinformaticians, IT personnel, and other researchers to respond to new technologies;
• any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A MSc. degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, statistics, mathematics or related field and extensive experience in analyzing/mining large scale biological data with approximately 1-2 years’ experience in bioinformatics (preferably in cancer genomics)

OTHER QUALIFYING SKILLS & ABILITIES: • Must be able to communicate efficiently.
• Working experience in mining genomic and clinical data.
• Experience in next generation sequencing data analysis (mutations, structural variations, and expression), data integration and data mining of public cancer genome datasets are preferred.
• Proficiency in R and at least one scripting language (Perl or Python).
• Experience with Git version control system.
• Experience in mathematical/statistical modeling, pattern recognition/machine learning, and network analysis are a plus.
