The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking an Interactive Developer (Front-End Web Developer). This is a full-time position at MaRS Centre in Toronto. The right candidate is hardworking and enthusiastic, an aggressive learner who will be comfortable working across a range of web technologies to develop online systems that will indirectly assist in scientific discoveries by enabling online interactivity.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• The Interactive Developer will be responsible for creating working prototypes and designing interactivity; building and maintaining reusable Interactive libraries, frameworks, and pages; testing, debugging and troubleshooting browser compatibility issues, integration issues, functional issues; and building awesome visual solutions.
• The Interactive Developer is collaborative; works well in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and is adept at juggling multiple projects. You will work with content editors, Interactive (peers) and back-end developers to integrate Interactive and back-end code, to ensure the solution works from end-to-end and meets its solution requirements; you will participate in user-centered research through usage analysis, user training, and rapid prototyping; and you will participate in Agile iteration and team goal setting.
• The Interactive Developer is capable of concise and correct technical evaluations, verbal and written communication. So you should be able to understand goals from internal and external partners and leaders alike — this includes describing solution concepts and helping to pitch ideas. Additionally, the ability to openly receive direction and process constructive criticism is required.
• The Interactive Developer will help programs reach international groups as part of the process of collaborating on scientific projects. You will build solutions on modern web browser technologies. You will measure your services and the success of the programs using the team's services and deliverables. And you may be asked to work on additional projects and duties as required.

TECHNICAL SKILLS
• Must have passion for excellence, unbelievably interest and love of web technologies and solutions.
• Ability to solve complex development problems and produce the highest quality code while pushing the boundaries of online applications.
• A solid understanding of solutions for intuitive site functionality, interaction, site architecture, user interfaces, and navigation.
• Experience executing large scale website launches. Ability to work quickly but with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Experience in hand-coded, standards-compliant HTML and CSS on different browser technologies.
• Excellent and up-to-date development trend knowledge and skills.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
• Positive, passionate, dedicated, open minded to partners and projects.
• Strong technical skills, excellent problem solving and great team player.
• Ability to work quickly but with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.

BUSINESS ACUMEN
• 2+ year(s) of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, Linux, Apache, MySQL.
• 1+ year(s) of production experience, with live systems, supporting tools, providing quality control and troubleshooting, and continuously integrating new features.
• Experience consuming services (XML, JSON, SOAP) using Ajax, as well as experience with Java technology stack and PHP will be highly considered.
• Web development experience in a production team environment.

LEADERSHIP

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
• Should have some online source to demonstrate strong Interactive development skills especially concerning extensibility, client-side computing, object-oriented design patterns, and object-oriented JavaScript/CSS.
• Should be able to explain the basics of W3C standards; HTML4 vs. HTML5; CSS2 and CSS3; cross-browser problems; and HTTP and AJAX.

NICE-TO-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
• Nice-to-have knowledge or experience with CMS/Drupal, HTML5, CSS3, SaSS, MongoDB, AngularJS, NodeJS including Express, Grunt.
• Nice-to-have knowledge or experience with Mobile-first Responsive, Twitter Bootstrap, Modernizr, Adobe Cross Domain.
• Nice-to-have knowledge or experience with Git/Subversion, JIRA, Confluence, Agile Methodologies, Vagrant, Selenium.
• Nice-to-have knowledge or experience working on different devices including designing, writing, building for the web, for mobile and different resolutions, for software applications would be an asset.
• Nice-to-have knowledge in design and development techniques (personas, storyboards, wireframes, mockups, behavior, control and information flow as flowcharts, workflows, technical system documentation).
• Nice-to-have experience working on MACOSX and proficient with Microsoft Office Tools, Adobe Creative Suite Tools.
