Research Assistant: Bioinformatics Specialist

Hiring Unit: Walsh Lab, GCRC

Supervisor: Dr Logan Walsh

Work Location: GCRC, 1160 Pine Avenue West, Montreal, QC, Canada, H3A 1A3

Hours/Week & Schedule: 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm

Hourly Wage: $27.37/hour (commensurate with experience up to $30.22/hour)

Planned Start & End Date: ASAP, one year

Genomic and immunological landscapes in cancer. Cancer cells are subject to both cell-intrinsic and cell-extrinsic influences that lead to disease progression. Our goal is to define how the stromal-immune landscape is affected by different molecular drivers of brain, lung, and breast cancer, through computational approaches.

• Develop bioinformatics solutions for the analysis of complex genomic datasets; • Develop analysis pipelines associated with Next-Generation Sequencing data; • Perform advanced statistical analysis to facilitate genomics data interpretation; • Manage several analysis projects at the same time; • Design, implement and troubleshoot analysis approaches; • Train new laboratory members on basic statistical methods; • Participate in regular meetings with supervisors to discuss data and progress; • Contribute both technically and intellectually to the laboratory goals; • Review and contribute to grant applications; • Review relevant literature on a regular basis; • Assist with preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals; Contribute intellectually to lab publications; • Stay informed of the most relevant bioinformatics practices in genomics; • Any other related activities assigned by the Research Supervisor


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: MSc in Bioinformatics or Computer Science with proven experience in Genomics

OTHER QUALIFYING SKILLS & ABILITIES: Extensive experience with next generation sequencing data. Experience analyzing RNA-seq and Exome data are a must. Working knowledge of The Cancer Genome Atlas and immunology are a plus. Proven scientific writing skills in English
