Position in Microbial Bioinformatics for COVID-19 Research and Response at Canada’s National Microbiology Laboratory and the University of Manitoba
The Department of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, in conjunction with Canada’s National Microbiology Laboratory (NML), invites applications for a bioinformatician for up to two years in the Van Domselaar Lab for Bioinformatics. The project will focus on the development of a bioinformatics platform for the storage, management, analysis, sharing, and reporting of next-generation sequencing data for SARS-Cov-2 for deployment throughout the Canadian public health system.
Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will work with a team of bioinformatics scientists to operationalize a computational analysis platform for SARS-CoV-2 sequencing and analysis.
Qualifications:
Requirements Applicants must have a B.Sc. in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computer Science, or a closely related field at the time of hiring. Strong programming skills are essential. Practical experience with next-generation sequencing data analysis and a solid knowledge of microbial genomics is highly desirable. To expedite security clearance, applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents having resided in the country for over ten years and have no record of criminal convictions.
Preferences Preference will be given to applicants with an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computer Science, or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with experience in bioinformatics tool development and software engineering, excellent communication skills, an ability to work well in a team environment.
