Senior Bioinformatician

Join the fight against cancer at this exciting time for Adaptimmune as we prepare for a planned commercial launch. This is a great opportunity to join us as a senior bioinformatician who will analyze biological data from data source generation through delivery of insight to stake-holders. The bioinformatician will create customized data algorithms and program pipelines using specialized and off-the-shelf computer software to identify, process, visualize and classify biological information. This role will partner with scientists, clinicians, and centralized functions to interpret and analyze biological data sets.

The purpose of this role is to solve scientific problems across the design, testing and manufacture of Adaptimmune products and patient experiences. The position will analyze internally generated datasets along with external data to discover biomarkers predictive of response or non-response with T-cell therapy. This role is a blend of analytical, biological, oncology and IT skills.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is interested in supporting the development of novel biological technologies to aid patients.


Key Responsibilities

Develop data analysis plans in partnership with scientist needs Develop and apply computational methods using computer programming, commercial software, statistics and mathematics to solve scientific and biologic problems Interpret and translate findings Analyze the data Prepare visualizations in variety of forms Communicate the scientific and biological insight to scientists Recommend next steps to evolve the analysis Prepare data in support of regulatory submissions Maintenance of relevant databases, data and records (including master data)


Qualifications & Experience

Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Information Technology or related field or equivalent postgraduate experience, preferably in a laboratory science environment Extensive experience solving progressively complex biological data analysis challenges Hands-on experience in Next Generation Sequencing-RNA seq data analysis and other bioinformatics tools Expert in single and multi-mode biologic data analysis and interpretation Able to proactively seek collaborations with scientists and lab heads Expertise in algorithmic implementation, statistical programming and multi-mode data manipulation Strong demonstrated data analytic planning, thinking and communication (written and oral) skills Familiar with specialized commercial and open source data visualization and analysis tools Solid understanding of bioinformatics-computational experimental design An understanding of tools for the analysis of high dimensional data High energy, confident, gets things done, yet easy going personality Confident and able to quickly navigate through ambiguity to achieve objectives Interested in solving analytical puzzles and scientific challenges Immune-oncology experience Desirable

Experience supporting translational science in biotechnology Experience with analysis and troubleshooting of high throughput and Omics datasets such as RNAseq, targeted sequencing, WGS, WES, nanostring, microarray, proteomics, metabolomics, etc. Experience mining and performing data quality control on public datasets such as TCGA data Skills & Competencies

Hands-on experience in the fields of bioinformatics and genomics including working with various public and proprietary data repositories (e.g., TCGA, GTEx, dbGaP, Ensembl, UCSC genome browser, Array Studio), bioinformatics tools (e.g., BLAST, GATK, Cell Ranger, samtools, VEP), and statistical environments (e.g., R, S+, Matlab) Demonstrated ability to understand data, apply techniques to interpret data, and summarize conclusions (orally and on paper) Demonstrated experience handling high fidelity / highly rigorous data supporting regulatory submissions Expert with graphical modelling approaches, tools and model repositories Strong use of statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization of data techniques Quickly and easily create custom pipelines for data analysis Passion and creativity to solve scientific problems through the lens of data analysis Excellent numeracy and English language skills (both written and verbal) Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) Attention to detail, good time management skills, able to engage with urgency (when required) Able to work independently after training Strong team player, able to partner with others responsible for tools and process Desirable
