Bioinformatician - Research Oncology

Pancreas Centre BC is currently seeking a Research Technician (bioinformatics) to join our growing interdisciplinary team of researchers. Our group focuses on novel and translational research that is capable of having a direct impact on clinical cancer management. Past and ongoing projects include patient-derived tumor organoid development, retrospective analysis of whole genome and transcriptome data from large cohorts of cancer patients, and development of novel computational pipelines. Pancreas Centre BC works in close collaboration with the Canada’s Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre and Canadian clinical trials groups.

This position is a full-time, temporary position. It is a one-year contract with possibility of extension due to performance and ongoing funding.

Responsibilities:

• Organization, analysis and interpretation of next-generation sequencing data • Development and implementation of novel computational algorithms • Contribution to the preparation of research manuscripts • Collaboration with local and international research teams • Participation and presentation in lab meetings • Report directly to clinical and bioinformatics team leaders

Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Engineering or related field. Minimum 2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience • Experience with R and at least one of: Python, Perl, C++ is preferred • Experience with pipeline tools such as GNU Make, Snakemake is a plus • Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment is required • Familiarity with good programming practices for reproducible science • Knowledge of next generation sequencing analysis is preferred • Proficiency communicating and working in a team-oriented environment
