The University of Colorado Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCCC) is seeking a PhD-level or equivalently experienced Bioinformatics researcher that is an expert in analysis of whole genome/exome sequencing (WGS/WES) data. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading the design and analysis of WGS/WES experiments in the context of cancer. This position will be part of a team of highly experienced Bioinformatics analysts that work across an array of -omics technologies. In addition to collaborating on multiple projects, the position will allow up to 20% of time to develop novel computational methods as independent research. This position will also offer the opportunity to develop independence of research through individual and collaborative grant funding.
The UCCC is the top-ranked NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in the mountain region of the United States. The UCCC has a membership of 280 faculty that span research from basic cancer biology to epidemiology and cancer prevention. The University has made major investments into centralizing patient medical records for research purposes, bringing in cutting edge single cell technologies at the protein, DNA, and RNA level (10x Genomics, VECTRA, MIBI, mass spectrometry, mass cytometry, high content microscopy), made major investments in to building research programs in Immuno-oncology, data analytics, RNA biosciences, and Fibrosis. Ability to manage multiple Bioinformatics projects Ability to develop new analysis pipelines and the associated code to execute the pipelines Ability to manage code through a versioning system such as GitHub.
Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this position has been established at $80,000 to $100,000.
Responsibilities: • Lead the design and analysis of projects involving -omics data through the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource with a present focus on WGS and WES. • Develop and run Bioinformatics pipelines. • Develop collaborative relationships with UCCC members. • Review and edit relevant sections of collaborative grants and manuscripts. • Participate in lab meetings and seminars. • Communicate with other bioinformaticists to exchange expertise and provide support.
Minimum Qualifications: • A PhD or equivalent experience (MS with 2+ years of experience) in Bioinformatics/Biostatistics/Computational Biology or related fields • Demonstrated track record of the analysis of WGS/WES experiments including quality control, alignment, variant calling, and copy-number analysis • A track record of source code in a version control system (e.g., GitHub) • Experience programming and attributable source code in R, Python, or related languages that are widely used in bioinformatics
Preferred Qualifications: • A track record in cancer research • A specialist understanding in a highly relevant field in cancer research, such as immunology, developmental biology, cell signaling, or a specific cancer type (e.g., prostate, breast) • Demonstrated ability to train researchers in bioinformatics skills and techniques • A track record of contributions to proposals for research funding • Interest in developing new analytical workflows for emerging technologies (e.g., multiplexed ion beam imaging or single cell technologies)
