This project will take place within the NSERC Industrial Research Chair in metabolic activity and the functionality of bioprotective lactic cultures (METABIOLAC) held by Dr. Ismaïl Fliss. The purpose of this Chair is to develop natural alternatives to chemical additives used for food preservation and to antibiotics employed as growth promoters in livestock production. The postdoctoral scientist will be employed for a full-time, one-year duration with the possibility to extend for an additional year. The successful candidate will have access to well-equipped microbiology (levels 1 and 2) and analytical chemistry laboratories.
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated candidate interested in characterizing microbial ecosystem dynamics in the gut or in food products using metagenomics, metabolomics, metatranscriptomics and bioinformatics methods. We are specifically interested in interspecies interactions, impacts of antimicrobial compounds on microbial ecosystems and antibiotic resistance.
The candidate should hold a Ph.D. degree in microbiology, biology, bioinformatics or a related field. Research experience in microbial ecology, working knowledge of omic approaches and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Experience with standard molecular methods (e.g. nucleic acid extraction, PCR, q-PCR) would be an asset.
