Metagenomics Research Associate

This position will broadly support the International Microbiome Centre in planning, organizing, executing, and evaluating the operations of a microbiome-focused service platform specializing in shotgun metagenomics. The successful applicant will develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for leading-edge scientific and technical work performed in the laboratory. This includes processing microbiome samples (most from human/animal hosts) for next generation sequencing using both manual procedures and high throughput robotic platforms. The position will involve consulting and negotiating with clients, preparing quotations, explaining proposals, and presenting scientific research reports and findings. In addition to supporting these operations of the wet lab, the successful applicant will work with Dr. Laura Sycuro and other senior scientists to produce standard operating procedures, protocol notes, educational briefs, and short review articles for distribution to Canadian microbiome scientists (through IMPACTT - the Pan-Canadian Microboime Core). They will devise and coordinate benchmarking activities that involve dozens of laboratories for the purpose of defining optimal quality standards and evaluating repeatability in microbiome science.

.PhD degree in a relevant discipline required Minimum 2 to 3 years of post-doctoral experience in a relevant research area. Minimum 7 years of technical experience and completion of post-secondary education in related discipline. 3 to 5 years of related technical experience within the research specialty field. 1 to 3 years of supervisory experience.
