Program Manager

Under the direct supervision of the McGill Initiative in Computational Medicine (MiCM) leader, the incumbent will facilitate all administrative and scientific aspects of the initiative where he or she manages all aspects of the administrative activities of MiCM including: financial, scientific and operational. The incumbent will be actively involved in the various steps in the operation of the initiative, from executing the vision to the long-term planning and fostering of partnerships within the industry. He or she will also collaborate with senior management staff on special project.


Manage the implementation of MiCM research goals through team meetings, internal committees and research seminars and actively promote the vision and values of the initiative;

Outline administrative and operational objectives by analyzing all activities of MiCM including financial, scientific and aligning with strategic advice of the MiCM;

Plans the execution of administrative and operational objectives to implement the strategic advice of the MiCM leader to support the goals and priorities of the initiatives;

Manage administrative operations of MiCM project including scope, schedule, resources and stakeholders;

Set milestones for administrative operations, ensure timeliness and reports on status;

Advise and make recommendation on the development of administrative/operational policies and new initiatives that support the strategic direction of the unit;

Develop operating and other project-based budgets, manages expenditures, monitors progress, and ensures compliance with the University’s budget policies and financial procedures;

Advise and make recommendations on financial objectives;

Plan and organize end-to-end delivery of large conferences and symposia (including logistics, invitations, and all necessary equipment and material, developing the agenda and contacting speakers and presenters);

Perform post-meeting follow-up by driving the necessary actions to implement, research specific requests and follow up on decisions taken; Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, academic staff and governmental agency and industry personnel;

Compile and create a course catalogue for MiCM and recommends best vehicle to do so;

Works closely with a web developer and McGill Communication team in order to create and design the MiCM website.


Undergraduate degree Three (3) years’ related experience

Demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem-solve, multi-task, prioritize and organize work. Proven ability to draft correspondence, proofread text, edit documents and take accurate meeting minutes. Demonstrated ability to be resourceful and able to perform under pressure, prioritize and meet deadlines. Must be service-oriented, entrepreneurial and creative, and be able to liaise with all levels of staff, students, professors, and ability to work independently or with teams with minimum direction or supervision. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Experience working in an academic environment, preferably in a research intensive university is considered an asset. Experience as a project manager with a background in either science and/or computer science is considered an asset. Intermediate to advance MS Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook; candidate may be tested to assess skills). Excellent communication skills in French and English (read, written and spoken).
