Bioinformatics Research/Scientific Associate

A full-time position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Tracy McGaha at the Princess Margaret Cancer Center in Toronto, Canada. The successful candidate will work with the McGaha Laboratory to support bioinformatics efforts and to help organize, plan, analyze, and interpret the results from a variety of exciting projects that are currently ongoing and planned. The successful candidate will work on existing and ongoing CyTOF and single-cell RNA-sequencing data sets isolated from various components of the immune system and from genetically engineered mouse models cancer.


-Analysis of bulk and single cell RNAseq data sets from animal models and human cancers -Analysis of 16S and shotgun sequencing for microbiome analysis -WES analysis from internal and external patient data sets -Analysis of ATAC, ChIP, and cut-and-run datasets -Provide detailed reports to the PI and collaborating scientists -Preparation of data for presentations and publication


Candidates must have a PhD or MSc with experience in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics/statistics or genetics, as well as proficient working on a Unix/Linux environment, using R for statistical analysis, and machine learning and data-mining skills. Preferred but not required are expertise in a scripting language (Python, Perl), version control and issue tracking systems (git), SQL or no-SQL databases, and working on a high-performance computing environment (SLURM). Hands-on experience processing and analyzing next-generation sequencing data (RNA) analysis is preferred. Experience with single cell sequencing data (Fluidigm C1, 10X, Dropseq, CyTOF, etc.) and tools (Seurat, SCONE, SINGuLAR etc.) is a plus. Ideally, the successful candidate will have some familiarity with the basic principles of immunology.
