Description of the CHU Sainte-Justine: The Sainte-Justine University Hospital Center (CHU Sainte-Justine, CHUSJ) is the largest mother-child center in Canada and one of the four largest pediatric centers in America. Its 5,000 employees and 500 physicians, dentists and pharmacists work in an environment that is both highly innovative, where knowledge is generated and shared on a daily basis, and respectful of people, placing the patient and his family at the heart of the practice. Associated with the Université de Montréal, the CHUSJ is by far the largest pediatric training center in Quebec and a leader in Canada; it welcomes more than 4,000 students and interns each year.

Brief description The Single-cell Sequencing Bioinformatics Platform is a new scientific research platform from the Research Department of CHUSJ, an initiative dedicated to pediatric hemato-oncology, which will meet the needs of researchers in terms of innovative technology in order to develop strong local expertise in this rapidly expanding sector, by setting up an analysis platform. This platform is looking for a computational biologist highly qualified in bioinformatics, whose main mandate will be to support the researchers of the Research Center in their analyzes. The candidate must be able to carry out different types of analyzes related to the most common approaches in single cell genomics (expression, ATAC, V(D)J, CITE-seq, mutations, etc.) and in “bulk” approaches including but not limited to the exome, the transcriptome and the whole genome. The recruited candidate should be able to adapt quickly to new technologies introduced by research teams and be able to analyze pilot experiences from emerging technologies. He must also have excellent communication skills, help democratize the analyzes carried out, train team members and participate in the scientific life of the Research Center.

The incumbent will act as a resource person for any question the researchers and research staff may have regarding a research project, which are related to the various functions, and responsibilities the incumbent will have at the platform.

Detailed description Under the direct supervision of the Manager of the common scientific platforms of the Research Directorship and in close collaboration with its scientific director Dr Vincent-Philippe Lavallée, the candidate will have, gradually and according to the priority projects, various responsibilities.


• Complete mature analyzes from raw single cell sequencing data, including documenting and communicating the analysis process, results, tools and techniques used; • Advise research teams seeking to generate single cell-type data on the experimental design; • Interact fluently with members of different research teams in order to develop appropriate analysis strategies; • Manage and coordinate the bioinformatics work carried out in the platform; • Develop and write procedures for processing data on the platform; • Organize and prioritize data on Compute Canada’s servers; • Develop, coordinate and plan the monthly invoicing of the services offered on the platform, while respecting the fee schedule in effect. • Communicate to the client in an efficient and effective manner; • Provide training and orientation for new employees.


Requirements: • Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computer science or equivalent. Work experience in the field or a related post-doctoral internship will be considered an advantage; • Demonstrated experience in conventional genomics and single cells; • Strong understanding of cancer biology and molecular biology; • Contribution to scientific publications in genomics; • Code experience in more than one of the following languages: python, R, C ++, Matlab, etc. • Good competence in “Data management”; • Proactive and able to work independently; • Excellent speed of execution, sense of organization and time management; • Strong interpersonal skills and team spirit; • Great adaptability and ease in implementing or using new algorithms; • Ability to work effectively, strong skills in stress management; • Fluency in French and English in the workplace;

Additional Information

Conditions of employment: This is a full-time (35 hrs/wk), non-unionized position (one year probation period).
