Bioinformatician Level 4 (Molecular Diagnostic Lab)

The project aims to characterise the genomic landscape of pediatric cancers in terms of molecular classification, prognostic stratification, targeted therapy and monitoring of treatment response. The ultimate goal of the project is to optimise the integration of clinical genomics into pediatric oncology, and to assess the analytical and clinical relevance of genomics into patient care, as compared to conventional diagnostic approaches.

The project aims to be highly collaborative and multidisciplinary, involving experts in pediatric oncology, genetics, genomics and molecular biology. Activities will take place at the Research Center and the Molecular Diagnostic Lab of CHU Sainte-Justine. The main responsibility of this position is the development, implementation and proper functioning of the bioinformatics component of the translational oncogenomics team.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in the development, maintenance and execution of the oncogenomic analysis pipeline; • Management of clinical and genomic data (transfer, archiving, organization); • Participate in the development of new software, analysis algorithms and databases to enhance the bioinformatics analysis pipeline; • Develop tools and methods to automate and optimize certain clinical bioinformatics processes; • Prepare high-quality tables and figures for manuscripts and presentations; • Participate in the development of analysis and evaluation plans under the project.

Qualifications:

• B.Sc, M.Sc or Ph.D degree in a discipline deemed relevant (bioinformatics and/or pure computer science, as well as oncology and/or genetics);
• A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in bioinformatics or in software development applied to genomics;
• Good knowledge of pipelines, tools and bioinformatic resources for analyzing genomic, genetic and transcriptomic data (among others BWA, STAR, GATK, Samtools, Picard, Annovar, dbSNP, Cosmic, Ensembl, etc.);
• Mastery of programming languages (Bash, Python, Perl, C++ ou Java);
• Familiarity with the use of computing clusters and submitting tasks to a scheduler (SLURM, SGE); • Mastery of Linux / Unix and Windows operating systems, cloud computing environment (Cloud) and code management (Git);
• Modeling and design of relational databases (SQL) is an asset; • Proficiency in statistical analyzes, graphical representations, gene expression analyzes and machine learning is an asset;

Skills sought : • Good bilingual communicator (French, English) orally and in writing, in order to be able to work with clinicians and national and international teams; • Excellent organizational, time and priority management skills; • Proactive, able to work and stay up to date independently; • Ability to work in a team; • Strong sense of responsibility;
