Senior Bioinformatician

The successful candidate will work with 5 Prime Sciences, which is a new start-up company. 5 Prime Sciences has been spun out of the laboratory of Professor Brent Richards of McGill University. In collaboration with team members, the candidate will ensure the timely execution of a set of bioinformatic pipelines to analyze genetic data. This information will be used to help develop new medicines.

Responsibilities:

Principle Duties and Responsibilities Management and execution of multiple computational genomics studies, including but not limited to: • Developing computational pipelines to capture, process, store and manipulate genomic data from sources such as genome-wide association studies, whole exome sequencing and whole genome sequencing studies • To develop pipelines to undertake genome-wide association studies and Mendelian randomization studies • Developing and adapting methods to identify genetic determinants of disease • Developing analytical and data processing pipelines to analyze genetic data • Collaborating with other companies and leading scientists to execute the above work plan. • Generate and maintain the computational code required for the above work program. • Writing reports and manuals to describe the results of the work program, document its output and enable others to use the resultant code. • Must be comfortable working in an autonomous environment • Must be able to accurately and clearly document code using GitHub • General administrative tasks related to the above work program. • Participation in the creation of new analysis programs. The candidate will be required to execute these experiments with little supervision.

Qualifications:

Qualifications: • PhD or MSc in genetics, bioinformatics, mathematics or computational biology • Over five years’ experience in programming for research programs related to biological problems. • Programming expertise in Python • Data analysis expertise in R • Deep understanding of the files and data arising from genome-wide genotyping, whole genome sequencing and whole exome sequencing • Development and maintenance of computational pipelines using Google Cloud, Docker and AWS.

• Salary Salary will be consistent with experience and will range from $50,000-$100,000 • Languages The applicant will have high-level proficiency in English reading, writing and presentations. French speaking is an asset. • Eligibility Requirements The applicant must be able to work legally in Canada as a citizen, permanent resident, work permit holder, or be able to apply for a valid work permit.
