Postdoctoral fellowship in 3D genome and genomics

Fields of specialization: Bioinformatics, computational biology, next generation sequencing, data analysis, cancer research, brain tumors, epigenomics.

Description: Dr Marco Gallo (UCalgary) and Dr Michael D Taylor (Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, ON) are recruiting a postdoctoral fellow with extensive experience in bioinformatic analysis of next generation sequencing data. The successful candidate will be co-supervised by Drs Gallo and Taylor, and will have the opportunity to participate in a Canada-wide effort to decipher the epigenomic landscape of pediatric brain cancers.

The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with wet lab scientists in the Gallo and Taylor Labs to generate and analyze epigenomics data, and will develop her/his own lines of inquiry. The successful candidate will analyze epigenomics data using existing and established pipelines, will be expected to design improvements over such pipelines to tailor bioinformatic analyses to the specific needs of the Gallo and Taylor Labs, and will be engaged in creative efforts to develop new bioinformatic tools.

Skills required: The successful candidate will have a rich list of publications in prestigious international journals, demonstrated experience with Linux/Unix, R, and analysis of next generation sequencing data. In particular, the candidate should be familiar with analysis of ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, Hi-C, exome and whole-genome sequencing data. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with creative ideas and extensive knowledge of bioinformatic tools. She/he will be able to work and solve problems independently, design and execute their own projects, and work with colleagues in a team setting.

Minimum educational requirements: Candidates must have a PhD and work experience in internationally renowned laboratories. We expect the successful candidate to be competitive for Federal, Provincial and Institutional awards and fellowships. The most advanced degree must have been conferred within the last 3 years.

  • How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, their CV including contact information for three references, and a research plan (one to two pages outlining your current research interests and/or research plans for the next part of your career).
