Bioinformatics Analyst and Research Assistant in Bioinformatics

Dr. Kevin Petrecca’s Lab at the Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital, McGill University is recruiting two Bioinformatics Research Assistant and Analysts. In close collaboration with McGill Genome Center, we are using state-of-the-art genomic technologies to uncover fundamental biological mechanisms that govern brain cancer initiation, development, and evolution, as well as the biology of human. brain. Under the direction of the Bioinformatics Manager, you will perform advanced bioinformatics and statistical analyses to interpret biological data such as single-cell transcriptomic and other Omics data, as well as managing datasets and benchmarking new Omics and bioinformatics tools.


• Apply bioinformatics approaches for the analysis of omics datasets. • Implement, optimize bioinformatics algorithms and develop pipelines. • Provide reports, presenting results and descriptions of the methods used. • Stay informed of the best bioinformatics practices relevant to biological problems. • benchmarking new bioinformatics approaches. • Contribute to problem-solving bioinformatics discussions. • Managing storage of datasets, project analyses, and results.


• undergraduate or graduate degree in bioinformatics or quantitative science, with at least 2 years of experience in the analysis of omics data, or undergraduate or graduate degree in biology with at least 3 years of experience in programming and data analysis. • Strong programming skills using a variety of languages, especially Python and R. • Experience in using HPC environment. • Experience in the analysis of single-cell transcriptomics and sequencing data is preferred.
• Knowledge of brain stem-cells is an asset.
• Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail. • Strong communication skills in English, spoken and written. French is an asset.
