Bioinformatician in genetics

The computational laboratory of the research center of the CHU de Québec - Université Laval (CHUL) invites applications of a Bioinformatician position. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Arnaud Droit, PhD, principal investigator and director of the computational biology laboratory, and Régen Drouin, M.D., Professor in the pediatric department at the faculty of Medicine of Université Laval, in collaboration with Fulgent genetics, a clinical genetic sequencing company. He will join an interdisciplinary team focused on developing and applying computational methods to analyze various OMICs-type data.


Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to): The candidate is expected to design algorithms to detect challenging mutations such as indel, copy number variation (CNV) and chromosome abnormality, build the pipeline, and cooperate with R&D group for product development. The successful candidate should be confident in reading scientific papers, programming and statistical analysis.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Must have a Msc in or equivalent degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology or a similar discipline. Must be familiar with Linux system and NGS system. Proficiency in at least one scripting language (C/C++, Python, Java, Scala). Solid scientific proficiency, creativity, curiosity and cautiousness. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills (fluency in French or English is necessary) in both verbal and written. Basic knowledge of genetics and statistics is highly preferred. Familiar with NGS tool set (SAMtools, bedtools, Picard). Establish and manage an analytical pipeline for data analyses, and generate workflows in scripting languages to automate bioinformatics processes Demonstrated ability to read, understand and extract knowledge from peer-reviewed scientific literature Demonstrated expertise in statistical analysis Strong verbal and written communication skills Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
