Bioinformatics post-doc, similar to single cell analysis

Exosomes are stable nanometer‐sized vesicles that are secreted by human cells into the blood stream. Exosomes carry unique molecular compositions representative of the parent cell, and in this sense an exosome “fingerprint” can be used to identify a parent cell, be it a cancer cell or a healthy cell. The information content carried by exosomes has recently emerged as a key biological signal for cancer diagnosis and progression. However, although exosomes can be obtained from blood in clinical settings, current exosome analysis tools only measure the average signal of bulk exosome mixtures, losing the precious cell- specific information encoded at the single exosome level that reflects the heterogeneous diversity of the parent cancer cells.

Job Duties
This project will focus on the preprocessing and analysis of a newly developed technology for single-exosome profiling. As such, the candidate post-doc is expected to apply and modify current technologies for profiling single-cell data to exosome profiling. Example technologies include tSNE, Phenograph to quantify single exosome heterogeneity and to identify subpopulations of exosomes (EX). Trajectory based approaches, for example Wishbone and Monocle, will also be useful to identify gradual changes in EX profile.
