The bioinformatics laboratory of the research center of the CHU de Québec - Université Laval (CHUL) invites applications of a Bioinformatician position. This full-time fixed term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension. The Bioinformatician will report directly to Arnaud Droit, principal investigator and director of the computational biology laboratory. The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary team focused on developing and applying computational methods in various OMICs-type projects. The team uses state-of-the-art applications of high throughput sequencing to analyze patients cohorts in multiple diseases, identify biomarker signatures, and identify bacterial sequences that could potentially serve as diagnostic markers. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Works closely with the PI and other members of the laboratory Support an experimental laboratory team to perform various bioinformatics analysis Participate in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of tools for managing, analyzing and interpreting omics data Assist with day-to-day platform operations, including data analysis and communication with service users Provide expert consultation, technical, and scientific support for investigators of the laboratory, and assist in training activities Participate in article and grant writing
Msc or PhD in a relevant area (Computer science, Bioinformatics) Understanding of concepts and principles of molecular biology and proteomics is a plus Practiced understanding of how to develop bioinformatics pipelines Proficiency with coding in R language Fluency with Unix Demonstrated expertise in statistical analysis Experience with data management and dataset manipulation Strong verbal and written communication skills (fluency in French or English is necessary) Sense of initiative and ease to communicate actively with participant involved in projects Excellent time management skills and the ability to work under pressure Demonstrated communication, organization, problem solving, and interpersonal skills Demonstrated ability to read, understand and extract knowledge from peer-reviewed scientific literature Accurately make computational records and reports
